Romeo enters with his boy Balthasar
Romeo rushed to the tomb where his lovely Juliet lies. He was there with only one thing in mind. He was there to kill himself because he is not stupid. He knows that whatever he does, it will not bring his wife back. He can't help but think about her all the time wishing to feel her warm hands beneath his. He wanted to hear her soft footsteps going towards him. He wanted her with him and the only way for that to happen is by killing himself. He asked his servant to leave him.
Balthasar exits
Romeo used all of the tools that he brought with him, with trembling hands, to open the tomb of the Capulets. He finally succeeded after a few trials and in there, he saw his lovely Juliet.
Though she is now lifeless, she is still as breathtaking as before. My wife is lying so beautifully, so peacefully. I can't wait to see her in heaven. Romeo thought.
He went closer to her pale and cold body. He hugged her tight as if saying "I missed you so much". He kissed her cold yet soft lips. He then took the poison from his pocket. With one last look at Juliet, he closed his eyes and slowly brought the bottle to his mouth. He waited for the cold mouth of the bottle to touch his willing lips but it never came. Instead, he felt a pair of soft hands on his own, preventing him from bringing the bottle any closer to his lips. He opened his eyes and he was shocked with what he saw. His lovely bride was there staring at him with her bright pleading eyes asking him to stop. He froze as he looked at her beauty. Romeo couldn't speak, heck he couldn't even move. He was beyond astounded.
Am I already in heaven? Was the poison that strong that I am already dead? But I didn't even feel the poison going down my throat. I see my Juliet, oh, she is so charming. But why is she looking at me like that? He thought.
"Why are you trying to drink this poison my love?" Juliet asked but she got no response. "The plan worked. I am glad that Friar Lawrence was able to send you the letter. Oh my husband let's run away now far away from here!"
"Plan? What plan my wife? I am dead already. I am already in heaven with you. Run away? I am dead now remember? We are both dead." Romeo replied
"No silly we are not dead. This was part of our plan. You see Friar Lawrence. . ." She stopped because as if on cue a trembling Friar Lawrence entered the tomb but he was not alone, behind him stood Capulet and Paris.
Capulet and Paris stood there bewildered trying to analyze the scene uncovering before them.
"What is that murderer doing near my daughter? Why is she awake? Isn't she dead? How can a dead person be brought back to life? That murderer, is he trying to steal her?" Capulet asked questions after another. He couldn't believe his eyes. "Friar, Paris, are you seeing what I am seeing?" He asked. No one answered because as soon as his senses went back to him, Paris ran to Romeo and punched him.
"You have been exiled from Verona! You killed Tybalt you murderer! I will bring you to the prince!" He yelled.
"Stop this now!" Capulet shouted. "Care to explain to me what's going on here Friar Lawrence?" He asked Friar.
Before Friar Lawrence had the chance to speak, Juliet ran to Capulet. "It was all my fault my lord. Please forgive me. I really love Romeo. I married him. When he was exiled I was so depressed I didn't know what to do so I asked for Friar Lawrence's help. He gave me a potion that would make me seem dead for 48 hours so that my Romeo would be able to get me from this tomb and run away together. Oh father please let me love and have a happy life with Romeo. Oh please. Please father! Oh please for the love of a daughter!" Juliet cried while kneeling in front of Capulet. He thought about what happened. How his daughter pretended that she was dead, risking her life for his enemy's son. For a second he considered letting them love each other. For a second he considered making peace with the Montagues. He considered those for a second. But only for a second. He let his pride and his stubborn self take over him. He couldn't let his daughter marry his enemy's son. With that he told Paris "Kill him" right in front of her daughter.
Juliet stood up and immediately ran to her husband before her father could get a hold of her.
"Noooooooooooo!" Romeo yelled in despair because Juliet ran in front of him just before Paris' sword could reach his chest. The sword stabbed Juliet right in her heart. It went so deep that it passed through her chest. Before Romeo could even utter any other word, he collapsed with Juliet on the floor with lots of blood. Romeo was also stabbed by the same sword behind Juliet.
Paris dropped to the floor scared and shocked of what he had done.
I killed two people at once with the same sword. He thought.
Capulet stood there realizing how awful his decision was. He ran to his daughter and hugged her bloody. He was sobbing. I am so stupid, so selfish, so stubborn. I did this to my daughter. Why did I let my anger get the best of me? Why? I am so sorry! My daughter, my Juliet, I am so sorry! He sobbed endlessly.
Friar Lawrence stood there watching the scene in front of him with tears in his eyes. He blamed himself for giving the potion to Juliet. He blamed himself for everything.
The next day
Everyone in Verona found out about what happened.
The dead bodies of Romeo and Juliet were buried inside a tomb of their own wherein their bodies are lying next to each other. There were in a tomb surrounded by beautiful flowers.
Capulet apologized to Montague and the latter did the same. They became civilized to another and so did their families. Everyone talked about Romeo and Juliet's story.
"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity."
